Decoating is often also called cleaning and is a very important and multifaceted process. Typical decoating applications are the removal of old paint on existing components and structures, such as buildings and bridges, for the purpose of preparation and repair and subsequent recoating, and for inspection and revision. Oil and grease residues can be removed, e.g. from vehicle parts, and moulds for metal die-casting and injection moulding as well as for glass can be cleaned. Welding slag and other welding residues can also be removed.
