From roughening to descaling -

our blasting media for all purposes

Shot Peening

Surface modification

Shot peening is used to harden or shape the surfaces of a workpiece (peen forming); the abrasive particles are rounded due to the hammer effect. Compressive residual stress is induced in the workpiece, so that the initiation of fatigue cracking is significantly delayed.

Shot Cleaning

Surface cleaning

Surfaces which are blasted with conditioned or angular abrasives are cleaned and prepared for downstream coating processes. Descaling and deburring of cast or forged components, descaling of and rust removal from steel profiles or the removal of old paint and other coatings are just a few typical examples.

Roughening / Tarneshing

Roughening helps create a positive fit, e.g. for brake pad mounts and to improve adhesion. The light roughening of surfaces in order to improve adhesion of a subsequently applied coating is called sweeping. In the case of tarnishing, for example, rolling mills are specified for roughening. Metallic workpieces are also prepared for coatings made of chrome or nickel.

Coating removal

Coating removal is often also referred to as cleaning. It is a very important and multifaceted process. Coating removal, for example, of old coatings on existing components and structures, such as high buildings and bridges, is performed for the purpose of surface preparation and maintenance with subsequent recoating or even for inspection and examination. Oil and grease residue is removed from items such as vehicle parts, or moulds used for die casting, injection moulding, and glass are cleaned. Welding cinders and other residual welding elements are also removed.

Deburring

Deburring is the process of removing or rounding cut edges. Examples of this would be the machined workpieces, such as milled or turned parts, laser-cut pieces, plasma-cut pieces, and thermal-cut pieces.

Descaling

Descaling is a process for removing the cinders created during heat treatment, forging, pressing, or rolling. Blasted product examples are all hot rolling items, such as sheets, wires, and rebar as well as forged items.

Rust removal

Rust removal is used to prepare or perform maintenance on surfaces to get ready for a subsequent coating.

Smoothing / Polishing

This blasting application is used to eliminate tool marks created during machining. The matte functional surfaces of tools can also be polished.

Cleaning

Cleaning is a special application from the casting industry. This encompasses the removal of mould sand and casting residue on workpieces made of grey cast iron, steel, or cast aluminium that have been cast in sand moulds.

Hardening

Shot peening or shot peening is used to enhance the fatigue strength of workpieces made of steel and cast steel that are subject to changing loads. The most well-known examples of this are all types of springs. It also eliminates stress concentrations that may be present at specific certain locations on workpieces. Furthermore, it is also used to minimise the damaging influences arising when workpieces are heat treated, such as decarbonisation or carbonisation, and surface corrosion.

Shaping

The blasting task of shaping is used to profile and form components, especially in the aviation and astronautics industries. The curvature of vaulted pieces is a well-known example. It is also useful for correcting form and positioning deviations of thin-walled sheet metal or die cast parts caused during manufacturing.
