Most sustainable fibre manufacturer
in the world
Our fibres perform significantly better than those of other manufacturers in terms of overall greenhouse warming potential. This is due to our integral approach, which requires the economic use of resources from the procurement of the raw material through to shipping of the fibres. In addition, we buy our electricity to 100 percent from renewable energy sources and produce a considerable share of our requirements ourselves thanks to our photovoltaic plant.
Relief for the city center
Sustainable infrastructure for the future
The planned Hosingen bypass in Luxembourg is intended to significantly relieve the heavily congested town center. Around 17,000 vehicles currently pass through the town center every day - with noticeable consequences for noise, air quality and road safety. In future, the bypass will route traffic around the outside of the town and thus make a significant contribution to reducing CO₂ pollution in city centers.
At the same time, great importance is attached to sustainability during construction. Among other things, polypropylene fibres (PP fibres) from KrampeHarex are used for fire protection. These fibers increase safety in the tunnel as they reduce the risk of concrete spalling in the event of a fire.
Both the purpose of the construction project - to relieve traffic congestion - and the choice of innovative, sustainable materials demonstrate this: The Hosingen bypass is a forward-looking infrastructure project in terms of the environment, safety and quality of life.
Fire protection in tunnels

Preventive fire protection has gained in importance in tunnel construction. New concepts demand that the concrete itself has a protective effect. This is made possible by adding synthetic fibres, because these reduce or prevent explosive concrete spalling.
Our polypropylene fibres are the result of many years of research and development. Their fire protection properties have been tested in collaboration with institutes like the Leipzig Institute for Materials Research and Testing (MPFA Leipzig GmbH), and the fibres have already been used in pilot projects like the Leipzig City Tunnel.

Tunnel in Hosingen takes shape
The 325-meter-long tunnel, constructed using the open construction method, consists of two separate tubes, each with two lanes and sidewalks for pedestrians on both sides, separated by a reinforced concrete wall. The clearance height is 5 meters for normal traffic and 5.50 meters for special transports.
The construction with its rounded geometry poses a particular engineering challenge. A 15-meter-long double carriage is used for concreting the tunnel tubes, enabling construction work to be carried out in sections. To increase safety, KrampeHarex's PP fiber PM 6/32 is used, which significantly improves fire protection in tunnel construction by reducing the spalling behavior of the concrete in the event of a fire.
The technical supply and monitoring equipment will be housed in a service building at the north exit of the tunnel. The project sets standards in quality, safety, and sustainability.
