Special Feature
of the Projekt
The majority of the new tunnel was constructed using the closed cut-and-cover method using excavators or blasting. In addition, open cut construction was used for some sections. The use of polypropylene fibres ensures fire protection.
Fibre concrete is THE building material with a future. Its innovative potential is far from exhausted.

Fire protection in the tunnels
A burning issue
Preventive fire protection is becoming increasingly important in tunnel construction. New concepts call for the concrete itself to have a protective effect. This is made possible by adding plastic fibres. These reduce or prevent explosive concrete spalling.
The polypropylene fibres from KrampeHarex are the result of many years of research and development. Together with institutes such as societies for materials research, they have been tested for their fire protection properties and have already been used in numerous pilot projects.
