The longest underwater road tunnel in the world
A century project

The Rogaland Fixed Link, commonly known as Rogfast, is one of Norway's most extensive infrastructure projects, involving the construction of a subsea road tunnel along the motorway E39. It will connect the municipalities of Randaberg, near Stavanger, and Bokn, with an additional branch linking the island municipality of Kvitsøy and will significantly reduce travel time to Bergen.
Once completed, the tunnel will be the world's longest underwater road tunnel at 27 kilometers (17 miles) and the deepest tunnel overall, reaching a maximum depth of 392 meters (1,286 feet) below sea level. This makes the tunnel the deepest tunnel in the world.
You can't get any lower!
CO2-footprint of steel fibre reinforced sprayed concrete

The reduction of CO2-emissions is becoming increasingly important worldwide. Norway has a pioneering role in this area.
This article takes a closer look at sustainability, particularly the CO2-emissions (Global Warming Potential - GWP) of steel fibre reinforced sprayed concrete and highlights the CO2-savings potential of KrampeHarex having a look to Rogfast project.
It is shown that with DE 40/0.55 M from KrampeHarex it was possible to reduce the dosage of the concrete by approx. 22 % while maintaining the same performance requirements. In addition, the CO2-footprint of the project has been significantly reduced thanks in major part to KrampeHarex' sustainability strategy.
“Thanks to our consequent efforts, KrampeHarex has developed to the leading manufacturer for high performing steel fibres with the lowest GWP on the market.”

DE 40/0.55 M
The sprayed concrete fibre

The reinforcement is ensured with DE 40/0.55 M from KrampeHarex. This cold-drawn wire fibre has a length of 40 mm, a diameter of 0.55 mm and a tensile strength of 1,800 MPa. It provides optimal reinforcement for the tunnel while increasing durability and service life.
But above all, this fibre sets new benchmarks in environmental protection. Even the raw material is made from recycled steel before it finds its way by water and rail from European sources to our production facilities in Germany. There, the wire is drawn, cut and provided with the typical hooked end using 100% green electricity and specially generated PV power from our roofs.
The ecological footprint of the fibre is therefore so small that it is without equal on the market. This responsibility towards the environment is firmly established in our DNA. And has been since 1982.
